Wilmington Yearly Meeting Children's Epistle

July 16-18, 2004

Greetings to Friends everywhere from Wilmington Junior Yearly Meeting,

We met at Wilmington College for the 113th session.  We sang songs, enjoyed a puppet show each morning with Bartholomule and Gouda and had a Bible story which we acted out.  Our Bible story was based on John 10, Friday, Matt. 5 and 6 Saturday and we focused on the Kingdom of God during Sunday morning's session.

We had a surprise visit from the Harvey's who had lived in Clinton County over a hundred years ago.  While plowing, Friend Harvey got a leading to go to Washington DC to speak to the President about slavery.  They traveled by train and stagecoach.  They spoke to President Lincoln, had prayer with him and then returned to Ohio.   Shortly after their visit, Mr. Lincoln freed the slaves.

In the afternoons we had outside play time, a trip to the park, a modern version of Noah's Ark and allowed our imaginations help us create new games and puppet plays of our own.

How can you learn about Quaker organizations and concerns and still have fun?  By playing Discover the Displays, a scavenger hunt that had us reading and studying the displays in the hallway.

We ended our activities with the Yearly Meeting as a whole at our church camp, Quaker Knoll at the annual picnic.

Now we are ready to go forth and follow the Yearly Meeting theme and be "Workers Together with Him."
